Classic Book Shop is brightly lit

and well organized.

We' re located in the Northwest corner of Royal Oak north of Detroit and just south of Birmingham. We're on the east side of Woodward between Normandy (13 1/2 Mile) and 14 Mile Rd. We're directly across from the huge Love's Furniture building (formerly Art Van's Furniture). 

Open since the spring of 1988 we have thirty thousand books, well-organized and easily found. Practically all our books have their dust jackets wrapped in clear plastic, mylar dust jacket protectors. (We also sell these separately.) 

Our books are noted for their excellent condition, one reason being that we do minor repairs so that you will not find books with loose or cracked hinges or detached illustrations. Old leather books are oiled with a quality leather dressing, which we also have for sale. We also take care to collate all books with illustrations or maps to make sure that every book is complete, if a book should be incomplete it is noted as such next to the price. 

We do not practice Caveat Emptor in this store. The role of a rare book dealer is not to trick the customer but to be a helpful guide. Honesty and trust is a vital element in the mail-order business. What this means in practice is good manners, prompt responses, and a sincere desire to satisfy the customer. Although we began in 1988 our staff has worked with books since 1968. David Oyerly, manager

David has been in book stores since 1968 when he started work for Follett's Book Shop in Ann Arbor.  From there he worked in a number of other Ann Arbor book stores including, Slater's, Centicore and Border's where in the latter two he was in charge of shipping and receiving.  Working in new books gave him a good view of how dangerous the U. S. Post Office could be for packages, and how necessary it was to securely wrap books for mailing.  In 1979 he started work for Ann Arbor's famous Dawn Treader Book Shop.  In the spring of 1988 The Classic Book Shop opened in Royal Oak, and David has been the manager here ever since.
